♣ Joffrey de Peyrac de Morens d'Irristru ♣
Lord of Toulouse, known as the Great Lame Devil of Languedoc.
He is known as great lover and libertine.

What do we know about him?

He was Born in Toulouse around 1625/6.

He is 12 years older than Angelique, lame, scarred and reputed to be a wizard.
He is a first-rate swordsman, and well known known with his profound knowledge.
In his palace he often organises regularly "le coeur de l'amour" (the courtyard of love)
as well known as "School of Love".

The infant Joffrey was to be brought up in his Protestant wet-nurse's house.During the religious conflict between the Catholics and the Huguenots Joffrey's face was disfigured by the swords of the Catholics and he was thrown out of a window.
He started to walk first when he was 12 years old and became lame for the rest of his life.

One of the famous Joffreys quotes:

Image

Joffrey smiled: “The life rarely brings us as much evil as it could.”
... For my part, when the danger has passed, I think less about to scare myself with the thoughts about what could have been happened if, than about the miracle of having escaped ...
- “I think you drank too much French wine today”, Angelique said.
--------------------------------------
Quote from Angelique in Quebec.

By the moment he appears in his guise as the Rescator, Joffrey had lost his trademark limp.

In Angélique (Original) / The Executed Man of Notre-Dame (Integrale) there is said he got tortured on the rack at least 30 times in the months he got imprisoned in the Bastille, the last time just before his mock-execution, so he couldn't walk unsupported to the pyre.

His joints were stretched and left to heal so many times, that his twisted legs were forced back into shape.
